Land Rover dikabarkan akan memperkenalkan teknologi penggerak roda depan dan mesin hybrid ditahun-tahun mendatang.

Perusahaan, dalam keterangan resminya seperti dikutip dari Autoevolution, menjelaskan, akan menggunakan sistem penggerak 2WD dan 4WD untuk Range Rover generasi mendatang.

"Land Rover telah mengumumkan bahkan akan membangun satu generasi terbaru Range Rover berdesain kompak yang tersedia dalam pilihan 2WD," ungkap Managing Director Land Rover Phil Popham.

Model penggerak 2WD ini diharapkan muncul mulai tahun depan dengan disertai penambahan fitur reduksi emisi gas buang serta konsumsi bahan bakar yang makin ditekan.

"Kami akan terus membuat kendaraan all-terrain terbaik dunia. Namun bila sebelumnya hanya ada penggerak 4WD maka nantinya ada alternatif pilihan lain bagi mereka yang tidak suka dengan 4WD," lanjut Popham.

Selain itu, pihak pabrikan juga tengah mempertimbangkan penggunaan teknologi hybrid pada generasi kendaraan yang mereka ciptakan di masa depan. Sebagai langkah awal Land Rover akan menggunakan mesin diesel mulai 2012.

Bahkan prototipe bertama dari penggunaan mesin diesel ini sudah melakukan tahap pengujian pada akhir tahun ini. Dan Land Rover rupanay tertarik pada mesin diesel 3.000 cc TDV6 ZF 8-speed.

Mesin diesel ini juga mampu meredam emisi gas buang CO2 hingga mencapai 100 g/km, dengan kecepatan maksimum hingga 200 km/jam.
